    Bean Chaointe

    Keening Woman

Keening is an ancient Irish and Scottish ritual, performed at wakes, processions and funerals. A mixture of singing, performative movement, chanting, and poetry - keening was to evoke the collective grief of the community so that everyone could truly mourn, and then, move forward.

Grief lives with us in many shapes - rage, love, shame, desire... it takes many faces and has many names depending on your lived path and experiences.

But to keen in our modern time is to honor the death of something old - an old belief, pattern, relationship, chapter of life... and to evoke up the deeply ancient wild and wise self who exists in your bones.

To keen is to liberate your body of the burdens from the past, so you can be present and reclaim agency for your future.

    Embrace the Keen

To keen can be a psychedelic like experience - but without any plant medicine.

Breath, movement, sound, and permission is all you need. I will bring forth the ancestors and the divine source energy to hold the space and support you in your great release and your transformative becoming.

Keening sessions can be in person and virtual, are 2 hours total, and are private, safe and supportive.

or you can participate in my annual retreat:

    Breathe with the Banshee

Both options have post-session support available.

    Walk the Keening Path

The Mná Chaointe (keening women) were fringe community members. They often lived on the outskirts of town and were both feared and revered for their abilities to work with (and on the behalf of) spirit.

To walk the path of a keener is no simple task. It requires dedication, devotion and courage. And, doing this work is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have in your life.

If you feel the call, then you know there is only one option: to step through any fear, doubt or uncertainty, and come into relationship with Badb, the Morrigan, Macha, and the Banshee.

Do you feel the drumbeat in your bones?
